Anonymous asked: Why do you feel like you need to serve as an alternative to "explicit" queer art? do you feel like explicit queer art is somehow lesser or gives queers a "bad name"? I feel like eroticism is a huge part of queer history, and of queer art history.

Totally agree. Erotica is a major component of all cultural history, and depending on your definitions, most art is explicit.  When we wrote that “not all queer art is explicit,” we were in no way inferring a hierarchy. QCA highlights artists who self-identify as LGBTQ, whether or not their work has directly or explicitly queer imagery.

That being said, we would LOVE for all of you to share with us your lists of artists to be included on this site.  Please either submit through the link above or send us an email at queercontemporary at gmail.com.
